Deciding on Eva-Last Decking: An Easy Choice
By: Geraldine Stewart
Having recently relocated from London to Cape Town, I was eager to embrace the outdoor lifestyle. Two decades of cold and rain fuelled my desire for sun-downer cocktails, braais, and basking in the sun. Upon purchasing my garden flat, I embarked on renovations to craft my perfect haven.
The goal was to fashion a space that mirrors my style, featuring a neutral palette with pops of colour, seamlessly blending the outdoor and indoor areas. Initiating the transformation with stack doors, my next step involved the quest to choose the ideal decking material.
Entertaining friends at home is a big part of my life, so I was looking for a decking solution that was low maintenance, stain resistant and long-lasting. For this reason, I didn’t want traditional wood decking. I came across an Eva-Last recommendation on a social media group that endorses tried and tested solutions. I then began to look at their ranges in detail.
Eva-Last decking is made of bamboo composite and has the benefits of durability, low maintenance and is eco-friendly. Definitely an added plus as I’m very environmentally conscious. It’s also decay and weather resistant which was important to me as my deck area is a sun trap. There is also a streaked variation in colour to give a natural timber look. In the end, I decided on the Infinity range as it has a class-leading guarantee. Although slightly more expensive than the entry level Eva-tech range, I felt it was worth the investment as I don’t want to have to go through this process again in another 10 years.
What colour to choose was a difficult one. I have two modern art prints on the left as you walk outside. Both grey and an oak colour feature prominently in the colour palette. In the end I went for Swiss Oak, a colour that contains both the oak wood tones but with natural grey undertones, as I felt Cape Town Grey was too dark for a small space of 35m2. It was the right choice, as the colour helps create a beautiful integration of inside and outside.
The quote process was seamless with a render being supplied to show me what it would look like. This was a big help as I struggled to visualise it (insert render drawing) and I was nervous about committing without a clear understanding of the end result. They work with approved contractors and DK Turf and Paving installed quickly and professionally.
The installation was completed in 4 days and was quickly followed by a deck-wetting to celebrate my new outdoor space! Can’t wait for summer now!
